Yoga Nidra | Stress Reduction For Your Body & Soul

I have been practicing yoga for 16 years. In all my years, Yogi Shambu has been my best teacher. He is deep and wise, yet also has an incredible sense of humour. I like that he believes in sticking closely to the authentic Hatha yoga practices of India. He has taught me WHY I am doing a pose by explaining how each posture helps to balance hormones and strengthen my nervous system.

I want to share one, with you, of the greatest tools I use daily to be happy and stay calm. Yoga Nidra is a technique Shambu taught me many years ago and it allows me to face international travel, 12-hour work days and TV appearances with energy and joy.

You've likely heard about some of the many benefits of meditation.

Meditation reduces stress, balances your emotions and strengthens your mind.

With all of these benefits, why are so few people meditating? Let's look at the top 3 reasons why Yoga Nidra can be a simple and easy pathway to including meditation in your daily life, too.

1. Yoga Nidra is a passive form of meditation.

Traditional meditation is often expected to be self-directed. If you feel too depleted to stay ‘present’ and lead yourself through a meditation, put those worries aside. In Yoga Nidra, you are only asked to follow the audio prompts to the best of your ability. No undue mental effort required.

2. Yoga Nidra is performed while laying down.

When we think of someone meditating we often think of them sitting cross-legged on the floor with their back perfectly straight. Though a very romantic notion, this position is often painful and impossible to maintain. In Yoga Nidra, all you have to do is lie down, cover yourself with your favourite blanket and relax.

3. Yoga Nidra can take as little as 15 minutes to practise.

Do you think of meditation as long hours in silence, removed from your everyday life? With Yoga Nidra, you can achieve a deep state of rest, rejuvenation and lasting peace  – in about the same amount of time as your average nap.

Yogi Shambu has gifted us all an incredibly powerful Yoga Nidra podcast. Give it a try above!

Yogi Shambu lives and works throughout Canada, serving an international clientele. He works to embody the great tantric Satyananda Saraswati’s mandate, “love, serve, meditate, realize.” Shambu seeks to help you return to yourself and find your inherent strength and guidance. He works to release the energetic residue of experiences (situations and beings), which then allow your actual present reality to come into clarity.
He offers massage, energy attunements and counselling, combined with yogic teaching at every level (and circumstance), working with individuals, families, couples and companies to facilitate their evolution.
